FAT CHOY OOHLALA was checked at the start when crowded for room between SICHUAN SUCCESS and MATSUKAZE which began awkwardly and shifted out. In this incident, FAT CHOY OOHLALA blundered. ELITE FORTUNE was slow to begin and shortly after the start made contact with CHINA DRAGON. After being crossed by FLYING SUPREME approaching the 900 Metres, PIZZAZZ raced intractably, got its head in the air, shifted out and made heavy contact with SICHUAN SUCCESS which was racing to its outside. MATSUKAZE, which was following SICHUAN SUCCESS, was checked in consequence and shifted out, resulting in ELITE FORTUNE being taken wider. DOUBLE LUCK, which was following MATSUKAZE, was also checked in consequence. ADMIRATION, which was following PIZZAZZ, was checked away from the heels of that horse and KYARA, which was following ADMIRATION, was also checked in consequence. After this, ADMIRATION improved into tight running between PIZZAZZ and MATSUKAZE and near the 700 Metres was checked when MATSUKAZE shifted back in slightly. KYARA, which was following, was again checked in consequence. After this, ELITE FORTUNE was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 700 Metres, PIZZAZZ shifted out abruptly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING SUPREME, resulting in MATSUKAZE being checked and taken wider and ELITE FORTUNE also being taken wider. The racing manners of PIZZAZZ were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PIZZAZZ will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. In the early part of the Straight, FAT CHOY OOHLALA had difficulty obtaining clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, KYARA was shifted in away from the heels of PIZZAZZ to continue improving. Also passing the 200 Metres, FAT CHOY OOHLALA was taken wider by DOUBLE LUCK which got its head on the side and shifted out. Passing the 100 Metres, KYARA shifted out and bumped PIZZAZZ. H W Lai was fined the sum of $5,000 for using his whip to excess on MACASSAR in the Straight when that horse was clearly out of contention. A veterinary inspection of FLYING SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. ADMIRATION and SICHUAN SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
