HOT ASSET began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of CRISTAL MAGNUM which shifted out. FAST INTENTIONS was slow to begin. In the early stages, YOUNG TURBO raced greenly and then when racing three wide and without cover making the first turn got its head on the side and lay out. YOUNG TURBO continued to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the race and rounding the Home Turn hung out. Passing the 700 Metres, HOT PEPPER raced in restricted room between YOUNG TURBO and STALLION SUPREME which got its head on the side and lay out. For some distance near the 100 Metres, HOT ASSET was awkwardly placed behind HOT PEPPER and STALLION SUPREME. After the race, CRISTAL MAGNUM (M Chadwick) collapsed. M Chadwick explained that the horse travelled well until the 150 Metres at which time it became unbalanced in its action. He said for this reason he eased the horse down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG TURBO after the race did not show any significant findings. CRISTAL MAGNUM, PRETTY ONE and HOT PEPPER were sent for sampling.
