As the start was effected, THEHEROINMYHEART lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. JOYFUL WINNER II began awkwardly. From the outside barrier, TRAVEL GUIDE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 900 Metres, JOYFUL WINNER II was left racing wide and without cover. For some distance after the 900 Metres, BEAUTY KING got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MATSUKAZE. After the 800 Metres, HOLYANGELHOLY commenced to over-race and was steadied away from the heels of CALLING WITH LOVE for some distance. In this incident, JOYFUL WINNER II was hampered when bumped by HOLYANGELHOLY which shifted out. Then near the 600 Metres, HOLYANGELHOLY was checked when unable to improve into tight running between CALLING WITH LOVE and JOYFUL WINNER II. Near the 700 Metres, THEHEROINMYHEART was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND ANGEL. Near the 350 Metres, CALLING WITH LOVE shifted in and bumped SUPREME GENKI. Near the 300 Metres, BEAUTY KING and DIAMOND ANGEL bumped. Over the concluding stages, BEAUTY KING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MATSUKAZE. When questioned, Trainer L Ho stated that as KHARU (T H So) had encountered difficulties obtaining clear running at a vital stage at its most recent race start, it had been decided to ride the horse in a more forward position today as it had previously been successful when ridden in this manner. T H So stated that, in his opinion, the work he had to do on KHARU in the early stages to obtain a forward position as instructed had resulted in it not being able to finish off its race. When questioned regarding COOL BEAN being ridden off the pace, T Angland stated that he had been asked to ride the horse more conservatively today due to its awkward alley. He said it was felt that the make-up of today’s race could result in the horse being left racing wide and as the favourite, HOLYANGELHOLY, was drawn inside COOL BEAN, he was instructed to obtain a position following that horse if possible. A veterinary inspection of HOLYANGELHOLY and JOYFUL WINNER II after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KHARU after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. HOLYANGELHOLY, CALLING WITH LOVE and SUPREME GENKI were sent for sampling.
