SILVER DRAGON and KING OF WINE were slow to begin. From the outside barrier, GOLD TARTINI was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, JACKTHELAD got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, GROUP LEADER, which after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAELSTROM, got its head up and shifted out towards the heels of OWNERS’ PRIDE. KING OF WINE, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Then near the 700 Metres, GROUP LEADER, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of MAELSTROM. KING OF WINE, which was following, was again hampered in consequence. MAELSTROM was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. For the majority of the race, ONE OF A KIND travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MAELSTROM had sustained a cut to its left hock. OWNERS’ PRIDE and THE PRINCE were sent for sampling.
