CLEVER SPIRIT began only fairly. MEGATRON shifted in on jumping and bumped HAPPY AND HEALTHY. From wide barriers, RUBY COAST and VARA PEARL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, INDUSTRIALIST WAY was steadied when crowded for room between MEGATRON which shifted out marginally and MR KOOL which got its head on the side and lay in. MEGATRON got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied passing the 1300 Metres. Then approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, MEGATRON continued to travel keenly and again got its head up when awkwardly placed behind MR KOOL. Passing the 800 Metres, HAPPY AND HEALTHY momentarily raced tight inside MEGATRON which got its head on the side and shifted in of its own accord despite the efforts of its rider. After the race, B Prebble stated that MR KOOL, which weakened in the Straight, raced like a tired horse. Mr W Y So, the trainer of MR KOOL, advised the Stewards that it was his intention to spell the horse following tonight’s disappointing run. A veterinary inspection of MR KOOL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CLEVER SPIRIT and UNIQUE HAPPIEST were sent for sampling.
