CARE FREE ELEGANCE was slow to begin. GRAND CHAMPION knuckled over badly as the start was effected, resulting in its rider, K C Leung, becoming badly unbalanced. In the incident, GRAND CHAMPION lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of GRAND CHAMPION immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained overreached wounds to both front heels, however, it was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. From a wide barrier, SUPER HORSE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1400 Metres, THANKSGIVING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GOLD PRECIOUS which shifted in. After the 1200 Metres, GOLDLAND DANCER was left racing wide and without cover. LUCKY DAN was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 300 Metres, KISSMET and GOLDLAND DANCER both became unbalanced after bumping. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, GOLDLAND DANCER and KISSMET were hampered when tightened for room between TELECOM PRINCE and LUCKY DAN (C Y Ho) which shifted out. C Y Ho was reprimanded and advised to exercise due care when shifting ground. KISSMET, LUCKY DAN and TELECOM PRINCE were sent for sampling.
