FIERY PATROL began awkwardly and bumped SHANTARAAM. BURGUNDY MAC was slow to begin. From wide barriers, SMART GUY and STREET CAT were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, SHANTARAAM shifted in, resulting in HAPPY KAISER being momentarily crowded for room. When SHANTARAAM was shifted out to relieve the tightening to HAPPY KAISER, PUBLIC FIGURE, which was racing to the outside of SHANTARAAM, was hampered. Near the 1000 Metres, CASA JUNIOR proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of LOVELY PANDA which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANESOUTH. Also near the 1000 Metres, PUBLIC FIGURE was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, SMART GUY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CASA JUNIOR. Near the 700 Metres, CASA JUNIOR was checked away from the heels of LOVELY PANDA. Near the 300 Metres, BURGUNDY MAC was shifted out away from the heels of DANESOUTH when racing tight for some distance between that horse and GLOBAL FAME which shifted out after being held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 150 Metres, STREET CAT was steadied away from the heels of DANESOUTH. A short distance later, STREET CAT (T H So) shifted in and bumped BURGUNDY MAC, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and BURGUNDY MAC shifting in and racing tight outside GLOBAL FAME. T H So was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Over the concluding stages, STREET CAT and FIERY PATROL raced tight. Because of this, both STREET CAT and FIERY PATROL were not able to be fully tested right to the end of the race. After the race, SHANTARAAM was found to have a bleeding quarter crack to the right front foot. WIN IT and DANESOUTH were sent for sampling. <3/3/2014 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Officer reported that BURGUNDY MAC was found to be stiff and sore over its hindquarters and back on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, BURGUNDY MAC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
