SURFER BOY, WHAT A HEART, MASTER RIO, KING OF THE DAY, HURRY HURRY UP and STAR OF WAI BO were all crowded for room between EXPEDITE which shifted in slightly and WELL DONE which began awkwardly and then shifted out despite the efforts of its rider, Apprentice C Y Lui. In this incident, SURFER BOY lost ground and HURRY HURRY UP became unbalanced and stumbled. From a wide barrier, EL GRANDE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 800 Metres, KING OF THE DAY became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between HURRY HURRY UP and MASTER RIO. DR GOOD HABIT had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 100 Metres was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of MAROON PRINCE. Throughout the race, MAROON PRINCE and SUNSHINE KID travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that WHAT A HEART had lost its right front plate. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF WAI BO and HURRY HURRY UP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DR GOOD HABIT, SUNSHINE KID and MAROON PRINCE were sent for sampling.
