After being loaded, HAPPY HOMING and LIVERPOOL LAD became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, both horses will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. HAPPY WISDOM began awkwardly. KIMBER FORTUNE and D DAY SUPER bumped at the start. Shortly after the start, PETIT PRINCE was crowded for room between LIFELINE ELITE which began awkwardly and LIVERPOOL LAD which, after shifting out of its own accord, was then taken out by NOBLE SAIL. In this incident, both PETIT PRINCE and LIVERPOOL LAD became unbalanced. After the 100 Metres, LIFELINE ELITE shifted in and inconvenienced MAGICIAN CODE. When questioned regarding his riding after the 600 Metres, B Prebble (KING PENDRAGON) stated that his mount, whilst racing outside HAPPY HOMING, travelled well on the outside fence. He said that approaching the 500 Metres HAPPY HOMING commenced to give ground and at this time KING PENDRAGON came off the bridle and was inclined to shift in. He said in an endeavour to have KING PENDRAGON race more competitively, he elected to shift his mount in towards D DAY SUPER in an attempt to elicit a response from KING PENDRAGON. He said however that KING PENDRAGON did not quicken at this time and despite being ridden along gave ground over the final 200 Metres. He added at the time of making his decision to shift in towards D DAY SUPER, he was unaware the eventual winner, ZEZAO was travelling behind him and that the sole reason for shifting KING PENDRAGON in at this time of the race was to have the horse race more competitively. A veterinary inspection of MAGICIAN CODE after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MAGICIAN CODE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAGICIAN CODE, ZEZAO and DIAMOND KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
