On arrival at the barriers, the tongue tie fitted to KEEN TACTICS was adjusted. SURROUNDED was crowded for room at the start between TELECOM CHIEF which shifted out and SAFARI MAGIC which shifted in after bumping KINGSTON SPARTACUS. After improving inside the heels of KEEN TACTICS near the 850 Metres when proving difficult to settle, KINGSTON SPARTACUS was checked when KEEN TACTICS shifted back in slightly. RED ADVENTURE, which was following, was hampered in consequence. When the pace of the race steadied near the 800 Metres, TELECOM SUPREMO shifted out away from the heels of ISLAND SPRING. After this, TELECOM SUPREMO was left racing wide and without cover. SURROUNDED, which was following TELECOM SUPREMO, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse in consequence. Due to the slow tempo, HEY CHEERS got its head up on a number of occasions passing the 800 Metres when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM CHIEF. KEEN TACTICS, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of HEY CHEERS in consequence and KINGSTON SPARTACUS, which was following KEEN TACTICS, was checked. Near the 600 Metres, RED ADVENTURE, which was attempting to improve into tight running between ISLAND SPRING and SURROUNDED, was checked when ISLAND SPRING was taken out by HEY CHEERS. In this incident, RED ADVENTURE and SURROUNDED made contact on a number of occasions, causing both horses to become unbalanced. A veterinary inspection of SURROUNDED immediately following the race revealed that it was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being permitted to race again, SURROUNDED will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SURROUNDED, FOLLOW THE WIND and KEEN TACTICS were sent for sampling.
