TOAST FOR TROPHY was withdrawn on 5.10.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GRACYTOM (C Y Ho). Before being allowed to race again, TOAST FOR TROPHY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, REAL GENERAL lifted its front feet off the ground and was a little slow to begin. From the outside barrier, FASTPLUS MASTER was taken across behind runners soon after the start. Approaching the 1000 Metres, BARCELONA TOO shifted in and bumped BINGO BINGO. Approaching the 900 Metres, REAL GENERAL shifted in and made contact with KIMBER FORTUNE. After making contact with KIMBER FORTUNE, REAL GENERAL then commenced to lay in despite the efforts of its rider, W M Lai, resulting in KIMBER FORTUNE being tightened onto the hindquarters of VIVA DOLPHIN which shifted out and caused KIMBER FORTUNE to be checked near the 850 Metres. W M Lai was advised whilst there was some circumstances involved in this incident, he was nonetheless reprimanded for initially allowing his mount to shift in and make contact with KIMBER FORTUNE. Soon after straightening, HERO’S WIN was steadied and shifted to the inside of FUN AND FAST after being disappointed for running between BINGO BINGO and FUN AND FAST which shifted out to improve. In the early part of the Straight, VIVA DOLPHIN and REAL GENERAL raced tight as VIVA DOLPHIN improved into tight running between REAL GENERAL and BINGO BINGO which shifted out slightly. DIAMOND ANGEL was held up for clear running until approaching the 200 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, HERO’S WIN made contact with GRACYTOM and BARCELONA TOO when taking a tight run between those horses, both of which were giving ground. As a consequence, HERO’S WIN became unbalanced. A short distance later, ISLAND SPRING was steadied away from the heels of BARCELONA TOO and soon after raced in restricted room between BARCELONA TOO and GRACYTOM. Also passing the 200 Metres, T Angland (TELECOM TOP STAR) was obliged to stop riding and straighten when his mount shifted in and inconvenienced LINKED WIN and REAL GENERAL. A short distance later, when struck with the whip, TELECOM TOP STAR shifted in further and hampered LINKED WIN. T Angland was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. Y T Cheng, the rider of FUN AND FAST, 7th placegetter, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. A veterinary inspection of REAL GENERAL and ISLAND SPRING after the race did not show any significant findings. VIVA DOLPHIN and TELECOM TOP STAR were sent for sampling.
