Trainer P F Yiu was fined a sum of $10,000 for breaching Trainers’ Handbook Regulations in that he entered KING OF WINE for an official barrier trial at Sha Tin on Friday, 5 October 2012 when that horse was a Standby Declared Starter for this race. SUPREME GENKI was slow to begin. From wide barriers, GOOD HONG KONG, SUPER HORSE and SUPER TIGER were all taken across behind runners soon after the start. H W Lai, the rider of SOLAR SPIRIT, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1300 Metres when not sufficiently clear of AUSPICIOUS START, resulting in that horse being steadied. At the 850 Metres, ELEPHANT MAGIC, which was proving very difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of TWIN TURBO (R Fourie) which shifted in when not clear. Whilst the Stewards accepted that the racing manners of ELEPHANT MAGIC had contributed to this incident, R Fourie was nonetheless reprimanded for failing to provide sufficient clearance to that runner. After being crossed by TWIN TURBO, ELEPHANT MAGIC shifted out, resulting in SOLAR SPIRIT and CHINA DELIGHT being carried out. As a consequence, SOLAR SPIRIT and CHINA DELIGHT were obliged to race wide and without cover thereafter. T Angland (GOOD HONG KONG) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CRAIG’S PRIDE, resulting in that horse having to be checked away from the heels of GOOD HONG KONG. T Angland was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 8 November 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 28 October 2012. Approaching the 50 Metres, C Y Ho, the rider of COOL BEAN, had his whip knocked from his grasp by the whip of T Angland. A veterinary inspection of SUPER HORSE after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR SPIRIT including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GOOD HONG KONG at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD HONG KONG will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COOL BEAN, GOLDLAND DANCER and TWIN TURBO were sent for sampling.
