After being loaded, FURTHER DETAIL (C K Tong) became fractious and reared. In this incident, C K Tong injured his right foot. Acting on advice that C K Tong was not fit to fulfil the riding engagement on FURTHER DETAIL, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Having in mind FURTHER DETAIL’s prior record, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. MIGHTY K shifted out and bumped COSTA DEL SOL at the start. MASTER GUNNER was slow to begin. Approaching the 1300 Metres, NICE FOLKS was steadied away from the heels of SAMADHI. After the 1000 Metres, COSTA DEL SOL proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ADORATION. Near the 850 Metres, WINNING BOY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY WARRIOR. After this, WINNING BOY got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of FOREVER ELATION. In doing so, WINNING BOY lost ground and THE UNTOUCHABLELAD, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Near the 600 Metres, FOREVER ELATION commenced to travel keenly and became awkwardly placed inside the heels of COSTA DEL SOL. Passing the 600 Metres, TARREGA momentarily raced in restricted room inside MIGHTY K. Near the 100 Metres, FOREVER ELATION was steadied when disappointed for running between MIGHTY K and ADORATION, both of which shifted ground. After this, FOREVER ELATION was shifted to the outside of ADORATION, however was not able to obtain clear running. Because of this, FOREVER ELATION was not able to be tested over the final 100 Metres. When being shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running, FOREVER ELATION made contact with SUPREME FLIGHT which became unbalanced. Throughout the race, ADORATION and SUPREME FLIGHT travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MIGHTY K had twisted the right front plate, resulting in the toe clip puncturing the sole of its foot. A veterinary inspection of COSTA DEL SOL, SAMADHI and TARREGA after the race did not show any significant findings. MIGHTY K, NICE FOLKS and ADORATION were sent for sampling.
