DIAMOND AGATE and SABINA were slow to begin. In the early stages, EASYGOING proved difficult to settle and making the first turn near the 850 Metres got its head on the side and hung in across the heels of DASHING ACE. F S WINNER, which was positioned to the outside of EASYGOING, was taken wider. Then throughout the race, F S WINNER travelled wide and mostly without cover. When questioned, T Angland stated that he had been advised to be positive on PLANET in the early stages from barrier 14, have the horse in about 4th or 5th position if possible and in a similar position when the horse was successful three starts ago. He said he had to make some use of PLANET in the early stages to cross runners to his inside rather than be left racing wide and this resulted in PLANET racing slightly further forward than had been anticipated. A veterinary inspection of F S WINNER including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, F S WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HOT PEPPER and FASTPLUS MASTER were sent for sampling.
