SUN DRAGON was withdrawn on 1.6.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore suspensory ligament) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GORGEOUS LIFE (C W Wong). Before being allowed to race again, SUN DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst in the Parade Ring, it was noted that GOOD JOB had lost its left hind plate. This plate was refitted. GOOD JOB was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On arrival at the Start, it was noted that DRAGON CHOICE had lost its left front plate. This plate was refitted. DRAGON CHOICE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. MERACUS was crowded for room at the start between EPATANT and THANKSGIVING which got its head on the side and shifted out. FULL VALUE was steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room between ROCKET PROUD and GORGEOUS LIFE which, after initially being taken in by DRAGON CHOICE, then shifted in of its own accord after becoming unbalanced. From wide barriers, NEWSWIRE TOO, GOOD JOB and CHINA DRAGON were all taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 800 Metres and again near the 700 Metres, GOOD JOB was steadied away from the heels of CHINA DRAGON. Rounding the Home Turn, CHINA DRAGON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FULL VALUE after being taken out by NEWSWIRE TOO (A Suborics) which shifted ground. A Suborics was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. METREVELLI was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 300 Metres, GOOD JOB momentarily raced in restricted room between GREY WHIZZ and FULL VALUE. Passing the 200 Metres, THANKSGIVING was shifted out after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROCKET PROUD when held up for clear running behind that horse. Near the 150 Metres, ROCKET PROUD shifted in and bumped GORGEOUS LIFE. Throughout the race, GORGEOUS LIFE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NEWSWIRE TOO, A Suborics stated that his mount travelled strongly until rounding the Home Turn at which point it came under pressure. He said NEWSWIRE TOO did not quicken at all today and after being ridden in a similar manner in the Straight as it was at its last start when successful, NEWSWIRE TOO was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of NEWSWIRE TOO after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that DRAGON CHOICE had lost its right hind plate. A veterinary inspection of FULL VALUE after the race did not show any significant findings. GORGEOUS LIFE, METREVELLI and ROCKET PROUD were sent for sampling.
