TOY STORY began awkwardly. GILDED FLIGHT was crowded for room at the start between STAR SON and SPEEDY which shifted out. SPECTACULAR AWARD was crowded for room at the start between DELISH and FERRABOSCO which shifted out. In this incident, SPECTACULAR AWARD made contact with the hindquarters of DELISH which became unbalanced. From the outside barrier, DELISH travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Near the 1300 Metres, BAMBOO DANCE got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of DELISH. Approaching the 400 Metres, GILDED FLIGHT and FERRABOSCO raced tight as GILDED FLIGHT attempted to shift to the outside of the heels of SPEEDY. As a result of this incident, FERRABOSCO became unbalanced. The performance of TOY STORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TOY STORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GOLDEN TREASURE, T Clark stated that his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage of today’s race. He said after the 1200 Metres GOLDEN TREASURE, despite being ridden along, was reluctant to maintain its position inside SPLENDID CHAMPION and then after the 800 Metres was reluctant to maintain its position inside BEST NOODLE. He said despite being ridden along GOLDEN TREASURE did not show any turn of foot today and was most disappointing in its failure to close off the race as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN TREASURE after the race revealed that the horse had sustained a small wound to the inside of the right front cannon. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FERRABOSCO, which finished tailed out, at the request of Trainer Y S Tsui. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FERRABOSCO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on STAR SON at the request of Trainer C W Chang. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of DELISH after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DELISH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN TREASURE, LEO’S PRIDE and BRILLIANT CHARIOT were sent for sampling.
