Soon after the start, GRAND DRAGON and GRAND STORE were badly crowded between BULLISH KING and MAELSTROM, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, GRAND DRAGON made contact with the hindquarters of MAELSTROM which became unbalanced as a consequence. For some distance after the 500 Metres, DIAMOND KNIGHT was steadied away from the heels of GROOVY. Passing the 400 Metres, MAELSTROM shifted out slightly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTHY FARM. GRAND DRAGON, which just prior to this stage had improved to the outside of the heels of MAELSTROM, was taken out as a consequence and momentarily crowded onto GROOVY which was hampered. GRAND DRAGON then had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200 Metres. BULLISH KING and LUCKY MAGIC were sent for sampling.
