As H Bowman was unable to fulfil the engagement on COURIER WONDER due to being overweight, K Teetan was substituted as the rider of that horse. H Bowman was fined the sum of $10,000. WHIZZ KID, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped awkwardly and lost ground. WHIZZ KID then raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 800 Metres was steadied away from CORDYCEPS SIX. COURIER WONDER jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start, LUCKY SWEYNESSE, which jumped only fairly, was then hampered when crowded between COURIER WONDER and CORDYCEPS SIX which shifted out. Near the 800 Metres, CORDYCEPS SIX shifted out and away from LUCKY SWEYNESSE, resulting in COURIER WONDER being taken wider. COURIER WONDER then raced wide and without cover thereafter. A veterinary inspection of COURIER WONDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY SWEYNESSE and WELLINGTON were sent for sampling.
