GLENEALY GENERALS was withdrawn on 18.2.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER AXIOM (M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, GLENEALY GENERALS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BULB TYCOON was slow to begin.
TEAM SPIRIT jumped awkwardly.
DENFIELD jumped awkwardly and made contact with right side of its barrier and then soon after shifted in and became unbalanced after bumping YOO YOO KNIGHT, resulting in YOO YOO KNIGHT being awkwardly placed close to the heels of CIRCUIT SEVEN which shifted out slightly. DENFIELD then travelled keenly in the middle stages.
Over the final 200 Metres, SPEEDY FORTUNE became held up behind SUPER AXIOM and approaching the 150 Metres was shifted to the inside of that runner to secure clear running. Then over the final 25 Metres, SPEEDY FORTUNE was again held up behind INNOCONSTRUCTION and could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.
When questioned regarding his riding of EQUILIBRIUM TURBO, L Hewitson stated that he was given no specific instructions but with EQUILIBRIUM TURBO back to the 1000 Metres today, he expected to settle in the second half of the field. He said after obtaining a position behind midfield in the early stages, he was able to follow FLYING HIGH in the run and felt that this was a good horse to follow into the race. He said from the 400 Metres EQUILIBRIUM TURBO became held up behind FLYING HIGH and when that runner did not immediately quicken, he elected to shift in to secure clear running. He added that as he commenced to shift in, he looked for a position to the inside of DENFIELD, however, when that runner shifted in at the same point, this resulted in EQUILIBRIUM TURBO being held up on the heels of DENFIELD near the 250 Metres before securing a tight run to that runner’s inside approaching the 200 Metres and in doing so brushed with HUGE WIN. He further stated that once into clear running and fully balanced at the 150 Metres, EQUILIBRIUM TURBO ran on strongly.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HUGE WIN at the request of Trainer F C Lor. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HUGE WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of BULB TYCOON immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
INNOCONSTRUCTION, FLYING HIGH and EQUILIBRIUM TURBO were sent for sampling.
