SEA JADE was withdrawn on 17.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DRAGON GENERAL (Apprentice H N Wong). Before being allowed to race again, SEA JADE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the Start, LUCKY DOLLAR, which was fractious and kicked a rail after leaving the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Also after leaving the Parade Ring, LEAN AMBASSADOR became fractious and made contact with a rail. LEAN AMBASSADOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DRAGON GENERAL, which was fractious in the barriers, threw its head back as the start was effected and consequently was very slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON GENERAL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. In this incident, Apprentice H N Wong was struck in the face by the head of DRAGON GENERAL. HOUSE OF FUN began only fairly. TURF SPRINT shifted out at the start and bumped LITTLE GIANT. From the outside barriers, LEAN AMBASSADOR and BULB ELITE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Apprentice H T Mo (SHAMAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY DOLLAR which was taken in across the running of MOMENTUM LUCKY which was steadied and in turn shifted in, crowding the room of LITTLE GIANT. In this incident, LUCKY DOLLAR struck the heels of SHAMAL near the 850 Metres and became unbalanced. Apprentice Mo was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 June 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 29 June 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Mo was fined $15,000. Approaching the 800 Metres, LITTLE GIANT commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of MOMENTUM LUCKY, resulting in FLYING TOURBILLON being taken wider. LUCKY DOLLAR got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. DRAGON GENERAL lost its left front plate after the 400 Metres. For the majority of the race, FLYING TOURBILLON travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SHAMAL had sustained an abrasion above the right hock and a small wound to the outside of the right hind fetlock. A veterinary inspection of FLYING TOURBILLON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LITTLE GIANT, SHAMAL and HOUSE OF FUN were sent for sampling.
