WINFIELD began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, MAMBO ROCK and STARSHIP were crowded for room inside WHOOP WHOOP which shifted in. From wide barriers, RUBY COAST and HAPPY PLACE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 900 Metres, SUNNY WAY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, WINFIELD and SUNNY WAY raced tight as WINFIELD shifted out away from the heels of LUCKY PROFIT after being awkwardly positioned behind that horse. Passing the 600 Metres, BABA MAMA was bumped by WHOOP WHOOP (C Williams) which shifted out. C Williams was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. THUNDER STOMP was held up for clear running at the entrance to the Straight. Passing the 400 Metres, BABA MAMA was shifted out away from the heels of STARSHIP. Near the 300 Metres, SUNNY WAY (S Clipperton) got its head on the side and shifted in across the heels of LUCKY PROFIT which shifted out marginally. After the race, S Clipperton stated that SUNNY WAY did not feel comfortable in its action in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUNNY WAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY WAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RUBY COAST was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres and near the 100 Metres was shifted to the inside of THUNDER STOMP after being disappointed for running outside that horse and inside WINFIELD. In the Straight, UNICRON JEWELLERY lay out under pressure. When questioned, D Whyte stated that WINFIELD was particularly difficult to manage in today’s race as the horse was inclined to shift ground on a number of occasions. He said in the Straight WINFIELD hung out and proved difficult to ride and over the concluding stages he was awkwardly placed between WHOOP WHOOP and THUNDER STOMP which was shifting out under pressure. He said having regard to the racing manners of WINFIELD, he was reluctant to continue riding the horse out over the concluding stages as WHOOP WHOOP, the eventual 5th placegetter, had already established a margin on WINFIELD. D Whyte was told that whilst the Stewards acknowledged that WINFIELD had proven difficult to ride out and that THUNDER STOMP was shifting ground to his inside, nonetheless he was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race wherever circumstances permit. After the race, C Williams (WHOOP WHOOP) reported that he had been asked to ride the horse more quietly than was the case at its last start. He said when ridden from behind midfield today, WHOOP WHOOP closed off the race strongly. A veterinary inspection of STARSHIP and BEAUTY LOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. UNICRON JEWELLERY, HAPPY PLACE and SKY KING were sent for sampling.
