GREAT SPIRIT was withdrawn on 17.4.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucopus in trachea on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter VITAL FLYER. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Just prior to the start, TURIN PEARL became fractious and then as the start was effected bounded in the air and consequently lost ground. CALIFORNIA BOUNTY stumbled at the start. SMART MAN began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so bumped WINDICATOR STAR. Shortly after the start, MULTIVICTORY was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE ALPHA when taken out by VITAL FLYER. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, LONDON CHINA TOWN failed to muster speed and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. Near the 500 Metres, VITAL FLYER was crowded for room between LONDON CHINA TOWN and MULTIVICTORY which got its head on the side and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of NOBLE ALPHA. SILVER GRECIAN, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Passing the 300 Metres, FREE JUDGEMENT and MULTIVICTORY raced tight as FREE JUDGEMENT shifted to the outside of WINDICATOR STAR into clear running. A veterinary inspection of TURIN PEARL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ACCESS YEARS and SMART VOLATILITY were sent for sampling.
