ULTIMATE WINNERS was hampered when crowded for room at the start between MASSIVE IMPACT and GLORIOUS AVENUE which shifted out abruptly. In the early stages, GLORIOUS AVENUE got its head on the side and hung out. Over the final 400 Metres, GLORIOUS AVENUE again got its head on the side and hung out under pressure. Passing the 200 Metres, GENUINE LEADER was checked away from the heels of DANE PATROL which shifted in marginally when giving ground. When questioned regarding his riding of TOUCH GO, Apprentice K C Ng stated that after beginning well, he shifted TOUCH GO across out to follow TANGO FIRE which he believed to be a good chance in the race. He said despite niggling at TOUCH GO after the 800 Metres, his mount was not able to follow TANGO FIRE and this resulted in the horse getting further out of its ground than he had hoped. He said he started to ride his mount along vigorously after the 600 Metres to have it improve its position and TOUCH GO commenced to respond well to his riding. He added passing the 200 Metres he was obliged to stop riding TOUCH GO when crowded for room inside GENUINE LEADER, however, a short distance later was able to recommence riding his mount along and it then closed off the race strongly. Apprentice Ng was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, in similar circumstances he must take appropriate measures to ensure that horses ridden by him do not get too far out of their ground. A veterinary inspection of ULTIMATE WINNERS and BERLINSKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER ABUNDANTE, MASTER AETIUS and PURE FORCE were sent for sampling.
