Steward Report Predict Pace Map
GOOD TIMES ROLL, which lost its left hind plate on the way to the Start, was replated on arrival at the Start. GOOD TIMES ROLL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HONG KONG DANCER began only fairly. GOOD TIMES ROLL was slow to begin. MEGA shifted in at the start, resulting in GOLDEN GUNNERS being crowded for room outside HONG KONG FAT. AFFECTION began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so made contact with PERFECT JOY which in turn shifted out and bumped DRAGON PINS. Passing the 1300 Metres, HONG KONG FAT was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN GUNNERS which was taken in slightly by MEGA. When being shifted in behind SUPER LIFELINE approaching the 1200 Metres, HONG KONG DANCER clipped the heels of that horse and blundered badly. When being steadied after obtaining the lead, MEGA got its head up and proved difficult to settle approaching and passing the 1200 Metres. When being crossed by BULLISH BOY (M Chadwick) after the 900 Metres, MEGA proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. MEGA was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of BULLISH BOY for some distance after this. M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised that whilst MEGA’s racing manners had contributed to his incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he gives sufficient clearance when shifting ground in future. Near the 700 Metres, PERFECT JOY shifted out away from the heels of DRAGON PINS when proving difficult to settle. After this, PERFECT JOY travelled wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, FIVE STARS HOTEL became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped PERFECT JOY which was taken wider. HONG KONG DANCER was not able to obtain clear running from passing the 150 Metres until the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be fully tested. AFFECTION and DRAGON PINS travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he had been instructed to position BULLISH BOY in about 5th or 6th position with cover if possible. He said he attempted to position BULLISH BOY as instructed in the early stages, however, due to runners better drawn than BULLISH BOY maintaining their positions, he was left racing wide and without cover after the 1200 Metres. He said for this reason he allowed BULLISH BOY to continue on into the lead rather than remain racing unnecessarily wide. Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of BULLISH BOY, stated that with the step up in distance to 1400 Metres for today’s race, he felt that there would be a reasonable opportunity for BULLISH BOY to obtain cover in about 5th or 6th position. He said at its last start over 1200 Metres, he felt that the horse may not have had sufficient speed to adequately cross runners to its inside and may have been left racing wide, therefore he instructed the rider of BULLISH BOY to ride the horse quietly in the early stages. He said in today’s race, due to the slow tempo, BULLISH BOY was left racing wide without cover. He said he agreed that it was in the best interests of BULLISH BOY for the horse to be taken forward into the lead rather than remain racing unnecessarily wide. He said whilst this was contrary to the instructions, given the circumstances of the race, he felt that BULLISH BOY being ridden in this manner afforded the best opportunity to close off the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GOLDEN GUNNERS, T Angland stated that the horse travelled well in the early stages when able to obtain a position in front of midfield without having to be ridden along to do so. He said his mount continued to travel well in the middle stages and rounding the Home Turn he expected it to show a good turn of foot after following the favourite, SIGHT LOVER throughout the race. He said after briefly responding to his riding, GOLDEN GUNNERS then came under pressure after the 400 Metres and proved most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN GUNNERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SIGHT LOVER, D Whyte stated that after being loaded, SIGHT LOVER became fractious which was unusual as the horse had previously relaxed well in the gates. He said SIGHT LOVER was able to obtain a forward position early in the race and travelled well throughout the early and middle stages. He said SIGHT LOVER came under pressure at the 400 Metres and whilst initially responding to his riding it gave ground over the final 200 Metres. He said, in his opinion, SIGHT LOVER raced like a “tired” horse and after the race he discussed with the trainer, Mr J Size, to consider giving the horse a let-up following today’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of SIGHT LOVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of AFFECTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SIGHT LOVER, SUPER LIFELINE and WINNING BOY were sent for sampling.
