SUNNY FAY was slow to begin. HOLMES LEGEND, which was slow to begin, was crowded for room shortly after the start by KEEN TACTICS which shifted out abruptly. KEEN TACTICS continued to shift out and bumped the hindquarters of FRESH AIR which became unbalanced. NEW DEERFIELD was bumped at the start by EASTERN PROMISE which shifted in after being bumped by SUDDEN THUNDER. From a wide barrier, SURFER BOY travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race. Passing the 1000 Metres, RISING POWER proved difficult to settle and making the turn after the 900 Metres got its head on the side and hung out. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SUNNY FAY got its head on the side and hung out across the heels of PROLIFIC CHAMPION, resulting in KEEN TACTICS, which was proving difficult to settle, being bumped and taken out onto the hindquarters of SUPER CAGA. Also making the turn near the 900 Metres, GREAT SPIRIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EASTERN PROMISE. Approaching the 200 Metres, GREAT SPIRIT was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUNNY FAY which in the Straight hung out and proved difficult to ride. B Prebble was spoken to regarding using the whip in the forehand manner down the shoulder on EASTERN PROMISE on a number of occasions passing the 200 Metres. Throughout the race, FRESH AIR travelled wide and without cover. G Mossé (NEW DEERFIELD) was warned against the practice of raising his whip arm above shoulder height. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY FAY after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small wound to the outside of the left front cannon. LITTLE COW and SUPER CAGA were sent for sampling.
