FOLLOW THE WIND began awkwardly and lost ground. MIZZEN GREY shifted out at the start and hampered GOLD FORTUNE. After the 900 Metres, STEP HIGH was left racing wide and without cover. When questioned, G Mossé (COSMO ONE) stated that, from barrier 13, he had been asked to ride the horse in about a midfield position with cover if possible and to make his run on the outside of horses in the Straight. He said accordingly he shifted COSMO ONE across behind runners in the early stages and was able to obtain a position behind FOLLOW THE WIND. Trainer Y S Tsui, who was not on course today, will be questioned regarding this matter upon his return to Hong Kong. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KHARU, a last start winner, Apprentice C Y Lui stated that after being loaded KHARU became fractious and as the start was effected bounded in the air and lost ground. He said after this he rode KHARU along to make up lost ground as he had been instructed to ride the horse in about 3rd or 4th position if possible. He said KHARU travelled only fairly throughout the race and came under pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said KHARU was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of KHARU after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FOLLOW THE WIND had sustained a small wound to the outside of the right hind cannon. A veterinary inspection of SUPER TIGER and THE ONLY KID after the race did not show any significant findings. TURBO JEWELLERY and FOLLOW THE WIND were sent for sampling.
