On arrival at the Start, Y T Cheng expressed concern with JAMESINA’s action. JAMESINA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. BREEZE OF LUCK was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, FUN HEROES was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1000 Metres, SUNSHINE DAY was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 850 Metres, TAKNAM was momentarily crowded for room by LOVING STAR which shifted in after getting its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEAR THE ROAR which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BREEZE OF LUCK. For some distance passing the 700 Metres, ENDOWING (D Whyte) and TRAVEL BRAND raced tight and bumped on a number of occasions as Z Purton, the rider of TRAVEL BRAND, attempted to prevent ENDOWING from shifting out into clear running between TRAVEL BRAND and LET’S GOAL. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that ENDOWING had fully established running to the outside of LET’S GOAL prior to TRAVEL BRAND improving its position around ENDOWING, no further action was taken other than to advise both riders that whilst competitive riding is encouraged, it must always be tempered in such a manner so as to ensure the safety of all riders and the welfare of horses are not compromised. Approaching the 600 Metres, LOVING STAR was steadied away from the heels of JAMESINA. LOVING STAR was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 100 Metres, JAMESINA got its head on the side and shifted out away from SUNSHINE DAY and in doing so made contact with the hindquarters of BREEZE OF LUCK. A short distance later, JAMESINA was buffeted for room and became unbalanced when crowded between BREEZE OF LUCK and SUNSHINE DAY which, after initially shifting out, then shifted out further after becoming unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by JAMESINA. In this incident, JAMESINA and BREEZE OF LUCK bumped, resulting in BREEZE OF LUCK being awkwardly placed inside the heels of HEAR THE ROAR. A veterinary inspection of BREEZE OF LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. TRAVEL BRAND, EAGLE SPIRIT and ENDOWING were sent for sampling.
