Due to a misunderstanding, the probable overweight of W Pike (GOOD JOB) was not declared at the time of declarations. GOOD JOB was slow to begin. For some distance in the early stages, EASYGOING proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Approaching the 1400 Metres, SPEED RACER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of POTENTIAL. Passing the 1400 Metres, GOOD JOB got its head up on a number of occasions and proved very difficult to settle. W M Lai (EASYGOING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HONG KONG FAT, causing that horse to be hampered and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. After hearing a submission by W M Lai in regards to penalty, the Stewards acceded to a request from him to impose a monetary fine in lieu of a period of suspension from riding in races. In the circumstances and having regard to W M Lai’s race riding record this season, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for him to be fined a sum of $60,000 in lieu of a period of suspension incorporating four (4) Hong Kong racedays. For some distance after the 900 Metres, GOOD JOB again got its head up when proving difficult to settle. For some distance passing the 400 Metres, POTENTIAL raced tight between EASYGOING and HERO’S WIN when improving between those horses. Throughout the race, EASYGOING travelled wide and without cover. M’S MAGIC, PRECISION MAGIC and MEDIC CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
