SUMMER DASH was hampered shortly after the start when crowded for room between ANTIPASTO and ENDLESS LUCK which shifted out. Shortly after the start, TOM’S EIGHTH was crowded for room between THE UNTOUCHABLELAD and GLORY OF INDIA which was taken out by INDIGO WAY which in turn was taken out by LIBERATOR. At the 1400 Metres, INDIGO WAY was steadied when crowded for room between LIBERATOR and GLORY OF INDIA which was racing tight to the inside of BEST CITY. Over the final 100 Metres, ENDLESS LUCK got its head on the side and lay in. Throughout the race, BEST CITY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that from a wide barrier he had been instructed to take SUMMER DASH across behind runners in the early stages. He said that shortly after the start SUMMER DASH commenced to get out of its ground, therefore he rode the horse along hands and heels in an endeavour to have it pick up the bit. He said he continued to ride SUMMER DASH along, however, it was not until he slapped the horse down the shoulder with the whip near the 1000 Metres that SUMMER DASH commenced to improve its position and travel. He added that at the entrance to the Straight he shifted SUMMER DASH to the outside of runners and the horse closed off the race strongly. BEST CITY and LIBERATOR were sent for sampling.
