From a draw towards the outside, MYTHIC STEED was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, JOLLY BIRD was tightened for room between NOBLE TWINS and JOYFUL YEARS which was taken in slightly by LUCKY NISTELROOY. Near the 1100 Metres, GREAT UNITY blundered after striking the heels of BAYVIEW GREYSLEW which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY BIRD. No further action was taken. Rounding the Home Turn, PRINCE OF LUCK got its head on the side and shifted out. Then shortly after entering the Straight, JOLLY BIRD, which was endeavouring to obtain a run to the inside of PRINCE OF LUCK (W M Lai), was severely checked when disappointed for running inside that horse which shifted back in. As the Stewards formed the view that JOLLY BIRD did not establish running to the inside of PRINCE OF LUCK, no further action was taken, however, W M Lai was advised to ensure that he does his best to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY BO BO and JOLLY BIRD after the race did not show any significant findings. JOLLY BIRD, NOBLE TWINS and LUCKY NISTELROOY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BAYVIEW GREYSLEW had sustained a cut to the left hind cannon.
