Shortly after the start, SYLLABUS was steadied away from the heels of BERIO which shifted out. Also shortly after the start, DEPOSER shifted out, resulting in INTERCHINA STAR being taken out onto LEGEND, causing both those horses to be hampered. After this, INTERCHINA STAR was ridden along to take up a forward position, however, the horse did not muster speed and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of INTERCHINA STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INTERCHINA STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 200 Metres, OLE OLE was steadied and shifted to the inside of the tiring SUNNY GOLF. OSVALDO was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 100 Metres. Assistant Trainer W Y So, representing Trainer C Fownes who was not at this evening’s racemeeting, advised the Stewards that due to the horse’s outside barrier, the short run to the first turn and the anticipated fast speed of the race, it was decided to ride VIGOR DELIGHT quietly tonight as it was felt that should the horse be ridden in a forward position, it may be left racing wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUNNY GOLF, Apprentice T H So stated that the horse was able to travel behind the leaders as instructed, however, it came under pressure at the 600 Metres and from this point onwards weakened. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY GOLF and INTERCHINA STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. OSVALDO, VIGOR DELIGHT and MIGHTY SUN were sent for sampling.
