LITTLE PLAYER began only fairly. SHENRON shifted out on jumping and brushed SHANGHAI POWER. Then despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, SHANGHAI POWER was slow to muster speed and after the 600 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. From wide barriers, JAZZ STEED and ACA POWER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. JAZZ STEED lay out rounding the Home Turn and at the entrance to the Straight bumped SMART FOLKS. STRIVE FOR GLORY had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of GLORIFIED FIRE after being disappointed for running between that horse and SHENRON which shifted in marginally. After this, STRIVE FOR GLORY was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not able to be properly tested. Approaching the 50 Metres, STEEL WIN was crowded for room between DASHING GENIUS and JAZZ STEED (K H Chan) which shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider. K H Chan was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to react quicker than he did on this occasion to his mounts shifting ground. LITTLE PLAYER was badly held up for clear running over the concluding stages and because of this was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. A veterinary inspection of GLORIFIED FIRE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. NEXTMODEL, STAR OF WUYI and SHENRON were sent for sampling.
