After being loaded, MALAYAN PEARL became fractious and put its head down on a number of occasions. Before being allowed to race again, MALAYAN PEARL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. NAVEL ORANGE was slow to begin. EAGLE SPIRIT began awkwardly. From the outside barriers, JOLLY GOOD and ABLE MAGIC were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, MOBILE KING, which began awkwardly, was crowded for room between WINNING ADVANTAGE and BETTER ANNOUNCE which shifted out abruptly after beginning awkwardly. When being steadied in an attempt to obtain a position with cover after the 1700 Metres, WINNING ADVANTAGE travelled keenly. Passing the 1600 Metres, FLYING IN lost its right hind plate. ABLE MAGIC proved very difficult to settle in the early stages and got its head up on a number of occasions when being checked away from the heels of FLYING IN. Then for some distance in the early and middle stages, ABLE MAGIC continued to prove difficult to settle. For some distance approaching the 1000 Metres, EAGLE SPIRIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MOBILE KING and passing the 1000 Metres was shifted to the outside of that horse. After this, EAGLE SPIRIT travelled wide and without cover. After the 500 Metres, JOLLY GOOD was taken wider by WINNING ADVANTAGE which, when giving ground, got its head on the side and hung out. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, OWNERS’ GLORY and MOBILE KING raced tight. Over the concluding stages, NAVEL ORANGE was steadied to avoid the heels of OWNERS’ GLORY which shifted in. For the majority of the race, WINNING ADVANTAGE travelled wide and without cover. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on WINNING ADVANTAGE at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING ADVANTAGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, B Prebble reported that BETTER ANNOUNCE was making a respiratory noise on pulling up. An endoscopic examination of BETTER ANNOUNCE did not reveal any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MALAYAN PEARL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. OWNERS’ GLORY, DRAGON PINS and BETTER ANNOUNCE were sent for sampling.
