When being saddled up, GREAT PEGASUS became fractious, reared and struck its head. GREAT PEGASUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, GREAT PEGASUS was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT PEGASUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Mr D J Hall, the trainer of GREAT PEGASUS, was advised that prior to being permitted to race again at Happy Valley, that horse must participate satisfactorily in an official barrier trial which necessarily includes a satisfactory parade test. NAUGHTY BABY shifted out at the start, resulting in ELEPHANT MAGIC being taken out onto PEARL WIN. From the outside barriers, ELEPHANT MAGIC and PEARL WIN were then taken across behind runners in the early stages. DELIGHT FORTUNE and AMERICAN FAME bumped at the start. Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, AMERICAN FAME got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of DELIGHT FORTUNE. Near the 900 Metres, TIME WINNER momentarily raced in restricted room inside MIGHTY EQUUS which, after shifting in, was then directed out to relieve the tightening to TIME WINNER. After the 900 Metres, NAUGHTY BABY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, TIME WINNER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MIGHTY EQUUS. AMERICAN FAME made the Home Turn awkwardly. In the Straight, NAUGHTY BABY got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride. After the race, DELIGHT FORTUNE was found to have sustained a small wound to the left front leg. A veterinary inspection of NAUGHTY BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DEMON DEMON, DOMINEER and JOY TOGETHER were sent for sampling.
