YOUNG SUPREME began awkwardly. From an outside barrier, FRIENDS OF YAN OI was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, POSITIVE ENERGY failed to muster speed. Passing the 900 Metres, JUST MISTERE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed outside the heels of FLYING KEEPER. Also passing the 900 Metres, YOUNG HAPPY and BERNARD’S CHOICE raced tight. Near the 750 Metres, BERNARD’S CHOICE momentarily raced in restricted room between INFINITE COURAGE and FLYING KEEPER which shifted in marginally. After the 500 Metres, INFINITE COURAGE raced tight inside FIERY RAIDER when attempting to obtain a narrow run to the inside of that horse. At the same point, BERNARD’S CHOICE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIERY RAIDER. FRIENDS OF YAN OI was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight behind YOUNG SUPREME which was giving ground abruptly. BOLD TACK had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Approaching the 300 Metres, BERNARD’S CHOICE was steadied and shifted to the outside of COSMO ONE when disappointed for running between that horse and FIERY RAIDER which shifted out. Throughout the race, YOUNG SUPREME travelled wide and without cover and at the entrance to the Straight commenced to give ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG SUPREME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of YOUNG SUPREME was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, YOUNG SUPREME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FLYING KEEPER lost its left front plate after the winning post. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FRIENDS OF YAN OI at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FRIENDS OF YAN OI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of POSITIVE ENERGY and YOUNG HAPPY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FRIENDS OF YAN OI, BERNARD’S CHOICE and JUST MISTERE were sent for sampling.
