After being loaded, HAIR BEAUTY became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, HAIR BEAUTY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Also after being loaded, XI YING MEN became fractious, reared, struck its head on an overhead bar and momentarily got its right front leg into the adjoining stall. XI YING MEN was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in its right front leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, XI YING MEN was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, XI YING MEN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAGICAL BEAM was badly crowded for room at the start between HAIR BEAUTY which shifted out and G J WINNER which shifted in. In this incident, G J WINNER became badly unbalanced after bumping heavily with MAGICAL BEAM. From a wide barrier, FIERY RAIDER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, HONEY FORTUNE shifted ground on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle and being awkwardly placed close to the heels of ELEPHANT MAGIC which was being steadied to obtain cover behind LONGWAH RISING. After the 900 Metres, HAIR BEAUTY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 300 Metres, LONGWAH RISING was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of ELEPHANT MAGIC after being bumped by JOYFUL WINNER II which shifted out. Over the final 200 Metres, FIERY RAIDER hung in and proved difficult to ride. The performance of G J WINNER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. As this was the second consecutive occasion that G J WINNER had finished tailed out in a race, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, G J WINNER will be required to undergo a series of satisfactory official barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of G J WINNER after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of KHARU after the race did not show any significant findings. AFRICA LIGHT and JOYFUL WINNER II were sent for sampling.
