WISER and D DAY SUPER were slow to begin. SUNNY FAY, which was slow to begin, shifted out shortly after the start and bumped the hindquarters of AFFLUENCE OF RAIN which became unbalanced. Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, FATBOY SUGAR (H W Lai) failed to muster speed and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover and near the 700 Metres got its head on the side and hung out. FATBOY SUGAR then gave ground in the Straight. After the race, H W Lai reported that FATBOY SUGAR coughed on a number of occasions on pulling up. A veterinary inspection of FATBOY SUGAR after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse`s trachea. After being bumped by VIVA DOLPHIN near the 850 Metres, WISER proved difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out. D DAY SUPER, which was following WISER, was steadied in consequence and in turn shifted out, resulting in SUNNY FAY being hampered. After the 800 Metres, AFFLUENCE OF RAIN was left racing wide and without cover. For some distance in the early part of the Straight, MASCOT FORTUNE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DOUBLE LUCK. Passing the 400 Metres, GOOD LUCK WIN raced in restricted room between DOUBLE LUCK and AFFLUENCE OF RAIN. Approaching the 300 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE became unbalanced in its action. GOOD LUCK WIN and AFFLUENCE OF RAIN were sent for sampling.
