OUTDOOR PEGASUS shifted out at the start, hampering STRAIGHT FORWARD. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HOT SHOT failed to muster speed and consequently raced further back than is usual. Approaching the 1200 Metres, GRAND DANCER was steadied when racing tight between STRAIGHT FORWARD and OUTDOOR PEGASUS which was taken in by PERFECT GEAR (O Doleuze). O Doleuze was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After being crossed by PERFECT GEAR, OUTDOOR PEGASUS proved very difficult to settle and approaching the 1000 Metres shifted out away from the heels of that horse, resulting in HAPPY TUMBLER being hampered. After this, OUTDOOR PEGASUS continued to prove difficult to settle. Near the 300 Metres, QUICK TOUCH broke down. Throughout the race, FLYING SUPREME and HOT SHOT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ZAIDAN, D Beadman stated that the horse did not handle today’s track conditions at any stage in the race. He said throughout the race ZAIDAN was unbalanced in its action and then did not stretch out under pressure in the Straight. B Prebble (HAPPY TUMBLER) reported after the race that although HAPPY TUMBLER had previously performed well on rain affected tracks at Happy Valley, the horse was not comfortable on the loose surface of today’s track. A veterinary inspection of ZAIDAN and HAPPY TUMBLER after the race did not show any significant findings. ZAIDAN, HOT SHOT and DIEGO were sent for sampling.
