ASSURE began awkwardly. HOME WITH GLORY was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, RACING LEGEND was steadied away from the heels of AMAZING CHOICE which shifted in after being bumped by WIND DAMPER. Approaching the 1000 Metres, HOME WITH GLORY and EN MASSE were steadied when crowded for room inside HOT PEPPER which was taken in by WIND DAMPER which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider to prevent that horse from shifting ground. RACING LEGEND, which was following EN MASSE, was checked in consequence. After this, WIND DAMPER proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. For some distance passing the 1000 Metres, FLORA DANICA got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ASSURE. Rounding the Home Turn, FLORA DANICA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ASSURE. Passing the 200 Metres, HOME WITH GLORY was checked when disappointed for running between ASSURE and HOT PEPPER which, when improving to the inside of the heels of KINGSTON ELITE, was taken in by that horse which shifted in slightly when commencing to weaken. HOME WITH GLORY was then not able to obtain clear running until near the 100 Metres. Also passing the 200 Metres, FLORA DANICA was steadied when disappointed for running between RIDE ON THE FIRE and ASSURE. After this, FLORA DANICA was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not tested. Throughout the race, HAPPY FOREVER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RACING LEGEND, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, the tempo of the race did not suit the horse and because of this it was not able to close off the race. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING CHOICE and RACING LEGEND after the race did not show any significant findings. HOME WITH GLORY, HOT PEPPER and ASSURE were sent for sampling.
