CASTLE ROCK was withdrawn on 26.6.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DREAMS MAKER (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, CASTLE ROCK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Passing the 1000 Metres, PROJECT RUNWAY (M Du Plessis) got its head up and lost ground when reluctant to maintain its position between CHINA WIN and BET ON ME. In this incident, PROJECT RUNWAY shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of CHINA WIN which became unbalanced on a number of occasions. M Du Plessis reported that after this PROJECT RUNWAY hung in and proved difficult to ride. FINAL ANSWER was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BET ON ME, B Prebble stated that as far out as the 700 Metres BET ON ME came under pressure and did not travel thereafter. Trainer P F Yiu advised that he was disappointed with the performance of BET ON ME today as the horse had worked well since its most recent start. He said although BET ON ME was successful on a yielding track last start, in his opinion, today’s track was more rain affected than on that occasion. He said he would monitor the progress of BET ON ME in the next few days before deciding whether to continue on with its campaign. A veterinary inspection of BET ON ME after the race did not show any significant findings. FINAL ANSWER and CHINA WIN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FINAL ANSWER had lost its left front plate.
