POS TRUMPS began awkwardly. ENGINEERING WONDER was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground as a result of being checked when crowded for room inside BEAUTY PLUS which was taken in by SPEED FIGHTER which shifted ground abruptly. Also shortly after the start, SILENT DRAGON and MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP became unbalanced after bumping. From a wide barrier, in the early stages, SPEED FIGHTER was taken back to a position with cover. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, TEAM WORK was steadied away from the heels of MONEY MAN which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. No action was taken. At the 900 Metres, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, which had been proving difficult to settle, was hampered and carried wider by ENGINEERING WONDER which shifted out away from the heels of OWNERS LAD which at this time itself shifted out. POS TRUMPS made the turn at the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of SILENT DRAGON. OWNERS LAD and BEAUTY PLUS, which were following, were checked in consequence. When OWNERS LAD checked, it shifted out, causing ENGINEERING WONDER and MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP to be hampered and carried wider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, DIM SUM raced tight inside TEAM WORK which became unbalanced after bumping with DEMINER which also became unbalanced. On straightening, TEAM WORK was bumped and carried wider by DIM SUM which shifted to the outside of DRAGON AND GOLD to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, DEMINER travelled wide and without cover and proved difficult to settle. DIM SUM and TEAM WORK were sent for sampling.
