FAULDS shifted out abruptly on jumping, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground.
From a wide barrier, ELON was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the turn near the 600 Metres, ELON became unbalanced after bumping the rail when racing in restricted room inside HYPER DRAGON BALL (J McNeil) which shifted in momentarily. J McNeil was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances to ensure sufficient racing room is provided to runners to his inside.
After passing the 200 Metres, HYPER DRAGON BALL, which was commencing to make ground, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of GLORIOUS STARLIGHT which was giving ground.
After passing the 150 Metres, GOLDEN LINK, which was laying in under pressure, was shifted out from behind WINNING ICEY to obtain clear running.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of J McNeil (HYPER DRAGON BALL) over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
When questioned regarding his tactics adopted on SUPER FORTUNE tonight, particularly between the 1000 Metres and the 600 Metres, K Teetan explained that his instructions, as usual, were to be positive and from a wide barrier SUPER FORTUNE was required to do a significant amount of work in the early and middle stages in an effort to initially clear NORDIC DRAGON. He said however that once passing the 800 Metres he made the decision to continue to press forward rather than break his mount’s momentum and crossed to the lead near the 600 Metres. He added that given SUPER FORTUNE’s consistent racing pattern, it was not an option to restrain the horse and settle outside SMOKEY BEAR which was leading approaching the 700 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER FORTUNE, SCOTCH TYCOON and SMOKEY BEAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NORDIC DRAGON and EXCELLENT PEERS were sent for sampling.
