SMART FUTURE, which was leaning on the outside of its gate as the start was effected, began only fairly and then shifted out towards the heels of ALL IS GOOD.
SOLAR PARTNER shifted out at the start and bumped THUNDERSTRIKE which in turn shifted out and bumped HELENE WISDOM STAR, resulting in all three horses becoming unbalanced. After this, HELENE WISDOM STAR was shifted across behind runners.
A short distance after the start, NICE BIRDIE and JOYFUL GENIUS raced in restricted room between HAPPY FAT CAT and ALL IS GOOD which shifted out.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, SON PAK FU was slow to muster speed and for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover. SON PAK FU then lay in under pressure in the Straight.
Near the 900 Metres, JOYFUL GENIUS was awkwardly placed inside the heels of NICE BIRDIE. JOYFUL GENIUS was then shifted to the outside of NICE BIRDIE approaching the 800 Metres.
Throughout the race, SOLAR PARTNER travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of SMART FUTURE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SMART FUTURE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, L Hewitson reported that THUNDERSTRIKE appeared to resent the kickback today as the horse did not travel well throughout the middle stages and then did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of THUNDERSTRIKE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, M F Poon stated that, in his opinion, JOYFUL GENIUS did not appreciate the kickback today. He added that it was only after being shifted to the outside of runners in the early part of the Straight that JOYFUL GENIUS finished the race off.
A veterinary inspection of SOLAR PARTNER, HAR HAR AT HEART and SMART FUTURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
YOUTHFUL DEAL and HAPPY FAT CAT were sent for sampling.
