From wide barriers, WORLD RECORD and RATTAN were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 1100 Metres, RIVET commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted out when being checked away from the heels of BOMBAY BLITZ, causing CITRON SPIRIT to be taken out onto CIRCUIT HASSLER which was hampered. For some distance after this, RIVET continued to over-race. Passing the 350 Metres, U Rispoli (HARMONY VICTORY) momentarily dropped his right rein. RIVET had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 300 Metres. CALIFORNIA JOY was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 200 Metres. Throughout the race, KING GENKI travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of RIVET and CALIFORNIA JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WORLD RECORD and RATTAN were sent for sampling.
