BORNTOACHIEVE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 7.1.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, BORNTOACHIEVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, FABULOUS NOVEMBER lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. DRAGON DANCE began only fairly. MY GIFT was crowded for room on jumping between SWISS WARRIOR and ORIONIDS which shifted out. In this incident, DESMIOS, which was positioned outside SWISS WARRIOR, was bumped by that horse. MY GIFT and DESMIOS were then shifted across behind runners. Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, FABULOUS NOVEMBER proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of STARSHIP. After the 1000 Metres, DESMIOS proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of STARSHIP. WINSTON’S LAD was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 100 Metres, DESMIOS was shifted to the inside of VICTORY DAY to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, DESMIOS was steadied away from the heels of ROMAN IMPERO. For the majority of the race, SWISS WARRIOR raced wide and without cover. When questioned, C Schofield stated that when he had ridden KA YING KID in the past, he assessed that it performs best when able to obtain clear galloping room. He said passing the 800 Metres when racing behind BEAUTY KINGDOM, the tempo of the race steadied marginally and when SWISS WARRIOR commenced to improve to the outside of KA YING KID, he felt it would be more advantageous for KA YING KID to be shifted out at this time as the horse had a light weight and he did not want to be pocketed by SWISS WARRIOR were that horse to improve around KA YING KID. VICTORY DAY lost its right front plate after the race. ROUNDABOUT and BEAUTY KINGDOM were sent for sampling.
