SUPREME ESSENCE was withdrawn on 26.6.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (stiff and restricted action) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BEST TANGO. Before being allowed to race again, SUPREME ESSENCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SMART BALL began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BOY OH BOY. BEST TANGO and TOWERING STORM were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, D’OR WONGCHOY and STEP HIGH bumped. From a wide barrier, WHY NOT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1400 Metres, D’OR WONGCHOY, HEALTH WISE and SMART BALL were all crowded for room inside GO GO WIN (M Du Plessis) which shifted in when not properly clear. M Du Plessis was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst he had made a belated effort to shift GO GO WIN back out, nonetheless he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the 1300 Metres, GO GO WIN got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, PERFECT CHEERS, which was racing wide and without cover, was bumped by BOY OH BOY which shifted out when racing keenly and close to the heels of HEALTH WISE. After this, BOY OH BOY continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTH WISE. Passing the 650 Metres, STEP HIGH got its head up when racing close to the heels of D’OR WONGCHOY. Approaching the 600 Metres, WHY NOT was steadied away from the heels of REDWOOD BABY. Passing the 400 Metres, STEP HIGH shifted in and was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of GO GO WIN. BEST TANGO was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres. WHY NOT was not able to obtain clear running until approaching the 200 Metres. TOWERING STORM was held up for clear running until near the 150 Metres. HEALTH WISE lost its left front plate after passing the winning post. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC JEWELLERY and D’OR WONGCHOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HEALTH WISE immediately following the race revealed the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HEALTH WISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BOY OH BOY, PRINCIPAL and STEP HIGH were sent for sampling.
