SOLAR SPIRIT was withdrawn on 15.2.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ROYALE ELEGANCE (T Berry). Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CITY POWER began very awkwardly and lost ground. After this, CITY POWER was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed. YEUNG SING was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, DRAGON KEEPER got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped REALLY THE BEST. From the outside barrier, GREAT PEGASUS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. MR GOURMET made the Home Turn awkwardly. Near the 350 Metres, POWER BLITZ was brushed by ROYALE ELEGANCE which shifted out to obtain clear running. Approaching the 100 Metres, ROYALE ELEGANCE and GRACEFUL KINGDOM bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground. Close to the finishing line, ROYALE ELEGANCE raced tight inside GRACEFUL KINGDOM. When questioned, A Suborics stated that he had been asked to ride LIFE OF BEAUTY in about a midfield position or behind midfield. He said after shifting his mount across in the early stages from barrier 11, he felt that it was not available for him to obtain a position as instructed due to the composition of the field. He said when he observed GRACEFUL KINGDOM shifting in near the 1300 Metres, he felt that that horse may be shifting in to obtain a position on the rail, therefore he rode LIFE OF BEAUTY along to obtain what he hoped to be a position with cover outside that horse. He said however GRACEFUL KINGDOM remained racing in a one-off position and it was then not available for him to obtain cover on LIFE OF BEAUTY due to runners maintaining their positions to his inside. He added because of this LIFE OF BEAUTY was left racing wide and without cover for the majority of the race and in a slightly more forward position than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of HAYHAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GRACEFUL KINGDOM and ROYALE ELEGANCE were sent for sampling.
