YEUNG SING was slow to begin. NOVEL START began awkwardly. When being steadied in order to shift across behind runners shortly after the start, EXPECTATOR shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FRESH AIR, causing both horses to become unbalanced. In the early stages, EXPEDITE got its head on the side and hung in and then made the first turn approaching the 1000 Metres awkwardly. Approaching the 1000 Metres, KING DERBY and SAMADHI bumped. After the 800 Metres, FRESH AIR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of OCEAN ROAR. After the 700 Metres, NAUGHTY BABY was left racing wide and without cover. For some distance after the 600 Metres, YEUNG SING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EXPEDITE. At the 400 Metres, NOVEL START was steadied after attempting to improve between JADE PIPPO and FRESH AIR where there was insufficient room. Over the concluding stages, TIME WINNER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SAMADHI. A veterinary inspection of KING DERBY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of FRESH AIR immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FRESH AIR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING DERBY, ALL WIN BOY and JADE PIPPO were sent for sampling.
