At the start, GRATIFIED and COLUMBUS LINE were crowded for room between OCEAN ROAR which began awkwardly and shifted out and PO CHING KING which shifted in after being bumped by SOUTHERN SPRINGS. In this incident, both GRATIFIED and COLUMBUS LINE lost ground. From a wide barrier, O’HALO was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. M Chadwick (PO CHING KING) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of OCEAN ROAR, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken in onto KA WAI FORTUNE, causing that horse to be crowded for room and to lose its rightful running. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 12 May 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 5 May 2013. In addition, M Chadwick was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays. Making the first turn after the 600 Metres, GREAT ALEXANDER shifted out and bumped SOUTHERN SPRINGS, causing that horse to become unbalanced and to be taken wider. Also making the first turn after the 600 Metres, POSITIVE ENERGY got its head on the side and shifted out. HIGHLAND DRAGON, which was following POSITIVE ENERGY, was hampered in consequence. Approaching the 500 Metres, GRATIFIED raced tight between COLUMBUS LINE and O’HALO which, when proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIGHLAND DRAGON. KA WAI FORTUNE made the Home Turn awkwardly. In the early part of the Straight, O’HALO was shifted to the outside of the heels of KA WAI FORTUNE to obtain clear running. Near the 50 Metres, HIGHLAND DRAGON shifted in under pressure and raced tight outside GREAT ALEXANDER. For the majority of the race, SOUTHERN SPRINGS travelled wide and without cover. HIGHLAND DRAGON, PO CHING KING and CALL ME ACHIEVER were sent for sampling.
