As the start was effected, CIRCUIT STAR lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, ALPHA GRAND shifted out and bumped VITAL GOLD. From the outside barrier, WINNING APEX was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. GOOD LUCK WIN travelled wide and without cover until after passing the 1000 Metres at which time EMPEROR CLAUDIUS was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 1000 Metres, CIRCUIT STAR commenced to over-race and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZINGLY. Rounding the Home Turn, CARE FREE PEGASUS became unbalanced when badly crowded for room inside NOBLE BOY which, after improving into tight running inside MY HOME TOWN, was then taken in slightly by that horse which itself was racing tight inside EMPEROR CLAUDIUS. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken. AMAZINGLY, which was following, was hampered in consequence. At the entrance to the Straight, AMAZINGLY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY HOME TOWN which was racing in restricted room inside EMPEROR CLAUDIUS. After the 200 Metres, CARE FREE PEGASUS was held up for clear running inside NOBLE BOY and behind MIGHTY K. In the Straight, EMPEROR CLAUDIUS hung in and proved difficult to ride. After the race, Y T Cheng (ALPHA GRAND) reported that the horse hung out when making the turns. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MIGHTY K, T Angland stated that the horse travelled well in the lead until GOOD LUCK WIN improved its position to be racing outside of MIGHT K near the 900 Metres. He said when this happened MIGHTY K commenced to travel more keenly and did not relax as it did in the early stages. He said after the 600 Metres MIGHTY K commenced to travel more comfortably, however, he placed the horse under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and after quickening briefly the horse then came under pressure and was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding for the remainder of the race. A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY K immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MY HOME TOWN, ALPHA GRAND and CARE FREE PEGASUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MIGHTY K, VITAL GOLD and AMAZINGLY were sent for sampling.
